Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, established in 1976, is the biggest national and general information and communication government-run institute and has contributed to develop the field of information and communication as a world power in the field of IT. ETRI for the first time showed its creative genius in developing TDX and CDMA and now continues to create new technology in the field of IT for supporting to reach nations’ income at 20,000 dollars. Currently, ETRI researches and studies new technologies related to such IT fields as mobile communication, digital broadcasting, broadband integration network, intelligence robot, tele-matrix, digital home, digital contents, information protection, communication service, and future technology.

Korea Aerospace Research Institute, established in 1989, is the national special research institute for developing Korea aerospace industry. KARI is developing medium and small size of airplane, satellite for observing the Earth, science rockets and space projectiles and takes an important role in spreading applied technologies concerning the field of aerospace nationally. Furthermore, KARI is also responsible for certifying the quality of airplane and space machinery under government’s legal mandate.

Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, established in 1959, is the only atomic research institute in Korea that has tried to secure competitive power of new technology development and national atomic technology.
Currently, KAERI is devoting itself to develop atomic-based technology, atomic safely, nuclear fuel cycle technology, technique of using nuclear reactor for researching, liquid metal reactor and new type of nuclear reactor, and to research radiation and radioactive isotope.

Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology is the government-run research institute that performs up-to-date life engineering research for developing health care, increase of food, purification of environment and new energy as well as basic research to understand phenomenon of life.

Korea Institute of Energy, first established in 1977 as the Korean Institute of Energy Conservation, has spent more than 30 years developing energy technologies and rational use of rising oil price, the Climatic Change Convention, and hydrogen economy society.

Korea Research Institute of Machinery & Materials is the government-run research institute that is fully responsible for research and development, scientific technology investigation, testing and evaluation, technology transfer, and technology support in the field of machinery and materials and other related fields. Currently, for the greatest achievementsof research, KRIMM is devoting itself to develop nano technology connecting with new technology and specialized fields, environmental·safety machine, intelligence machine, up-to-date structure materials and materials with new function.
